While writing words with letters made of photographs is not a new idea, this Carmel-based company, has introduced a new website, where users can build their own personalized framed picture using up to ten black and white photos and color symbols.

When I started playing with the images on the site, I was somewhat dismayed because all the letter photos are in black and white. This makes a handsome "art" piece, but really doesn't do much for me. I wanted to see what some simple blending modes could do to the images. So, here's the original piece:
I simply created a new layer and popped some real color into the photo letter shapes.
Looks pretty boring in the naked form ... but wait 'til we play with some blending modes. Here are just a few, with blending mode indicated to the right...
Which gives you an idea of some cool stuff you can do. There are also fonts and clip art packages available that use photographic images shaped like letterforms that you can generate your own images and words. Together, they have photographed hundreds of every-day objects from around the world that can be combined to form a word or phrase.
